Adam J. Lewis Academy
To transform the life trajectories of underserved children in Bridgeport, CT. Our mission is to provide an enriching, nurturing, high-quality elementary experience, which will set the children on a path of success in school and in life.
Core services: With a unique program encompassing school, home, and future, AJLA delivers a high-quality classroom experience that strengthens both cognitive and character skills; empowers families to reinforce and extend their children’s education at home; and facilitates primary school placements that will nurture graduates’ continuing success
Alpha Community
Services YMCA
They strive to provide shelter and a path to a better life for those individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
Core services: They provide emergency, temporary shelter as well as extended services through Permanent Supportive Housing and Rapid Rehousing. Partnering with community resources, their case managers help clients access services such as nancial support, healthcare, counseling, education and job training. SCC supports them by providing holiday food baskets for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Burroughs Community Center
To provide the residents of Bridgeport with program opportunities and facility resources for promoting individual growth and community cohesiveness.
Core services: Quick start language, volunteer income tax assistance, adult literacy, computer center, Fitness, arts, recreation and wellness activities, and community garden.
Bridgeport Rescue Mission
To fight poverty from the inside out by embracing people with the compassion of Christ, offering hope and healing for a changed life.
Core Services: Provide vital services to men, women, and children facing hunger, homelessness, and addiction, offering help to heal and return to the community whole.
Center for Family Justice
Breaking the cycle of abuse and violence – domestic, sexual and child by providing services that create hope, restore lives, and drive social change through education and community collaboration.
Core Services: Provides high-quality support and services to anyone, of any age, impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. Also, education for our communities about ways to break the cycle of violence, build healthy relationships, stop bullying, and end teen dating violence.
Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants
“We envision Connecticut as a place where new Americans may fully participate in our culturally diverse communities, where low-income families may have access to affordable immigration services and be reunited with family, where survivors of crime and persecution may have the resources needed to become self-supporting and healed and where ethnic diversity is valued as a cultural and economic strength by all.”
Core Services: CIRI offers legal, social, linguistic and educational programs to help refugees, asylums and immigrants overcome the many barriers they face in adjusting to their new environments. In addition, CIRI provides special services to victims of serious crimes such as human trafficking, torture and domestic violence. Each year, CIRI assists close to 5,000 individuals from its offices in Bridgeport, Stamford and Hartford.
Emerge, Inc
To inspire women and children who are survivors of domestic violence.
Core services: Safe transitional and permanent housing and support services. Budgeting, job seeking skills, self-empowerment, supportive services for the children as well.
Fare Share Food Rescue, Golden Hill Methodist Church
Their mission is to serve the hungry in the Greater Bridgeport area.
Core services: They provide a weekly community dinner. Many groups and churches, make the meal each week at Golden Hill. SCC has a group that rescues food from local groceries each week and delivers the food to be part of the weekly meal.
Hang Time/Her Time
To enlighten, educate, de-escalate conflict and problem-solve through discussion.
Core Services: We seek to provide specific ex-offenders, groups and gang members diagnosed (and/or yet to be diagnosed) with Post and Present Traumatic Stress options in mental health treatment. We aid with social service navigation and serve as a sanctuary for its participants, offering a respectful, safe and empowering environment.
Homes For The Brave
With an emphasis on veterans, provide the housing and services necessary to help homeless individuals return to a productive and meaningful life.
Core Services: Transitional housing, permanent supportive housing, veterans service center, transitional home dedicated to homeless female veterans and their children up to 10 years of age.
Horizons: Greens Farms Academy & Sacred Heart University
Helps underserved Bridgeport students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade improve their educational outcomes by providing academic instruction, enrichment experiences, mentoring, and educational guidance in a nurturing community of dedicated professional.
Core Services: Pre-K-8 Program, Saturday Academy, and the High School Program. Students in grades preK-8 attend Horizons for six weeks during the summer and on Saturdays during the school year. Upon entering 9th grade, students enter the High School Program, where they receive weekly one-on-one academic support and mentoring from an academic coach, plus two weeks of college prep in the summer. During their senior year, each student is also assigned a college counselor to assist the student and family in navigating the complexities of the college admission process.
Kennedy Center
The Kennedy Center is a not-for-profit rehabilitation agency supporting more than 1,500 children and adults with disabilities with vocational, residential, educational, therapeutic, social and recreational programs throughout the State of Connecticut.
Mercy Learning Center
Provides basic literacy and life skills training to low-income women using a comprehensive approach within a compassionate, supportive environment.
Core services: Beginner ESL classes, a one-on-one or group Tutoring Program, a full-time classroom-based Intensive Study Program, and the National External Diploma Program (NEDP). Support services include a computer lab, vocational counselor, learning specialist, early childhood education, social services and food pantry.
Operation Hope Pantry
Provide innovative solutions to hunger and homelessness in Fairfield and the surrounding communities.
Core services: (1) Food pantry, (2) supportive affordable housing, (3) community kitchen, (4) clinical support services. Specifically, SCC supports the Food Pantry.
Pivot Ministries
“To treat drug and alcohol addiction as a spiritual problem and return the men to their families usefully whole.”
Core services: Residential recovery program; a safe, secure, supervised environment for healing, counseling and education. Each man is connected to a career path or educational goal. Southport Congregational Church supports Pivot Ministries financially as their choir performs during our church service

Provides bright futures for impoverished children, their families, and their communities.
Core services: Children’s Village in Oaxaca, Mexico.
The Southport School
Our vision is a world where people with language-based learning differences and ADHD are embraced for their strengths and potential, and where all teachers have access to training in best educational practices and current research.”
Core services: “Our mission is to provide transformative educational experiences that have lifelong impact on our students as well as thoughtful leadership that engages the learning differences community.” In 2023, and moving forward, our church will be supporting The Southport School’s Mountain Workshop, for 6th-8th graders. The community and teamwork approach of the Mountain Workshop focuses on the value of self and others and builds on values including diversity and tolerance, empathy, inclusion and collaboration."
St. George’s Community Meals
To serve needy residents in Bridgeport nutritious meals.
Core Services: The St. George’s Community Meal program serves 5,000+ meals a year with the support of volunteers from 8 suburban churches including SCC. St. George’s opens its doors at 3:00 PM every Monday of the year to provide warmth, shelter, coffee and a friendly place to gather, in addition to a good meal.
Shepherds Inc.
Shepherds empowers inner-city Connecticut teens to build a foundation for success by providing a college preparatory education at a private high school, academic and life skills programs, and the positive influence and support of a committed Shepherds Mentor.
Southern New England Conference of the UCC
Local and national UCC mission work.
Core Services: The Southern New England Conference of the UCC combines the efforts of UCC congregations in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut in fund-raising, consciousness-raising, and providing local ministerial resources.
Together, the conference funds retreat and respite centers, camps for lower SES families, and supports the various local missions of congregations. Additionally, they provide significant ministerial resources to clergy and lay people.
