Barbara Sallick
Few people have shaped how we think about the bath and kitchen as profoundly as Barbara Sallick. The co-founder of Waterworks, she is a sought-after speaker known for bringing both rigor and warmth to the conversations about design, and the author of four books that have become touchstones for designers and homeowners alike: The Ultimate Bath (2022), The Perfect Kitchen (2020), The Perfect Bath (2016), and Waterworks: Inventing Bath Style (2001). Her writing also includes contributions to books by Phillip James Dodd and Don Ruggles, leading authorities in classical architecture and design.
Barbara has served on the board of directors of the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art, the Dean’s Advisory Board of BUWheelock College of Education and Human Development, on the Board of the Decorators Club Education Fund, which provides need-based scholarships for high school students to attend pre-college programs at five accredited design schools. She founded a design lecture at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).
A board member at The TileWorks of Bucks County, the historic artisanal tile factory, Barbara received the Cottages and Gardens’ Innovator of the Year Award in 2015; House Beautiful named her one of its 2020 Visionaries. In 2024, she was inducted into the New England Design Hall of Fame.
Barbara has two sons---Peter, Waterworks CEO and Creative Director; and Dan, a founding partner of Avoq, a creative advocacy firm based in Washington, D.C.---and five grandchildren and remains as engaged with the future of design as ever.
